New update for Jetpack Joyride due for April

Luke Muscat, chief creative officer at Halfbrick, talked at GDC yesterday about the challenges of the iOS updating process. According to Muscat, it's harder to change existing games like Fruit Ninja or Jetpack Joyride than it is to release content for level-based titles like Rovio Mobile's Angry Birds. However, the difficulty isn't an insurmountable one. The 1.3 update is coming to the iOS game Jetpack Joyride this April.

The in-game store will soon feature a gadgets section with three upgrades for protagonist Barry Steakfries, who in the game steals a jetpack from work as a way to escape the boredom of his daily routine and regain his confidence after sales plummet.

Air Barrys will allow players to leap over obstacles quickly, and Free Ride provides a vehicle at the start of a run, but the third bonus, Ezy-Dodge Missiles, is more of a mystery: “If you’re going to play a game of chicken with a missile, make sure it’s an Ezy-Dodge!”.

The humorous trailer below shows off the special Air Barrys sneakers:
