Various sources, including The Watcher from the Marvel Comic universe, are reporting that EA’s trouble NBA Elite title has been cancelled indefinitely.
The decision comes after the game’s demo received extremely negative criticisms and the game was pushed back, missing the start of the ’10-’11 basketball season. Now NBA 2K11 has been released to rave reviews, completely negating NBA Elite’s existence. NBA Jam, scheduled to be released as an in-package bonus with Elite, will now be released on its own.
EA has given the franchise to Madden developer EA Tiburon, who will handle it going forward, at least for now.
I have to say, EA shelving a yearly sports game because of quality concerns? Mind = blown. Good for them, and I hope that whenever it is released, it’s a great game and does well for them (see?! When companies do nice things, journalist say nice things back!).
