Naughty Dog teases new images of The Last of Us enemy

If looks could kill, then consider yourself already doomed in Naughty Dog's upcoming game, The Last of Us.

Over the weekend, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells, tweeted images of the infected enemies you'll encounter in the PS3-exclusive action, survival game The Last of Us.

The photo was actually of a character model and, as seen in the trailer, it depicts the plant-like fungus infection that has mutilated and disfigured what was once human.  It's pretty gruesome, but definitely intriguing.

That won't be the only threat you'll face in The Last of Us.  We've heard numerous gameplay details since the game's announcement.  GameInformer recently posted screenshots of the game, along with gameplay details.  The magazine noted combat will include both gunplay and melee attacks – and judging from screenshots zombies won't be the only threat you'll face.

But The Last of Us isn't just about action.  The developers have described the game as a "love story" between main characters Joel, a 40-something year old black marketeer with a dark past, and 17 year-old Ellie, who Joel's been paid to smuggle out of a quarantined safe zone guarding survivors from the virus outbreak.  It's not a romantic love story, but a love story about a father-daughter-like relationship.

"It's not just a zombie game. It's going to be a completely amazing experience that no player has experienced for this genre, the characters, the development, everything," explained game director Bruce Straley.
