In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Naughty Dog claims that moving to next-gen consoles is scary.
Studio Co-president Evan Wells stated that development for a next-gen console is a "double-edged sword", meaning that even though developing for a brand new console appeals to the geek inside of them, the realization sets in that a lot has to be learned about the hardware.
"When you're going to new technology, every day is a slog, progress is slow and it really takes a different kind of attitude and mentality to get through that kind of push and it's not right for everybody."
And this is of course understandable, when you're dealing with completely new technology that doesn't perhaps use the same engines that the team was previously using.
Another thing to consider is the fact that talks of next-gen consoles are already brewing around the internet. With the rumor that the PlayStation 4 is already in the works, this might be yet another tough transitional time for developers in having to learn another new piece of hardware.
The fact that Naughty Dog went through such a hard time in developing for a next-gen console back when the PS3 was announced, and still came out with Uncharted, which was absolutely magnificent, one can only wonder what their next blockbuster will be, once the PS4 is upon us.
