Mortal Kombat X to have less familiar faces, focusing on new characters

While we patiently wait for more info on NetherRealms' Mortal Kombat X, one thing that creator Ed Boon has made very clear during a chat with IGN, is that unlike the previous Mortal Kombat, which focused on a lot of familiar faces, we'll be seeing a slew of new characters this time around.

A big part of this change is the fact that Mortal Kombat X will jump around various timelines, anywhere from 5 to 25 years, meaning we'll get to play as one of the new announced characters, Cassie Cage, daughter of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage.

The last game we did in 2011 was a complete fan service title, so we really felt it was time to add a lot of new characters to the mix, so yeah, a lot of old faces won't make the roster, but to us it was more important we did introduce new characters. We're probably introducing more in this game than in any other MK title ever.

Some of the new characters already announced aside from Cassie Cage are D'Vorah and Ferra & Torr.

Are you pumped to finally see some new blood in a Mortal Kombat game?

Mortal Kombat X will be released in 2015.
