Minecraft Creator Fan of Achievements, May Add to Game

If Minecraft wasn’t addicting enough for you, the game’s creator has declared his love for achievements and is considering adding them to the game. Speaking to Indie Games, Markus Persson said: “I mean, if we controlled the servers, then we could give out badges and things like that.”

Indie Games responded by asking if Persson meant awards such as Microsoft achievements.”Yeah, I like achievements,” Persson said. “I know a lot of people don’t, but I like them. I’ve had the idea to make achievements kind of like the in-game questing. So you’d be able to see the first achievement in a tree of achievements, and you have to unlock the top ones first before you can unlock the ones further down.”

Following completion of an achievement, Persson said “it could converge into a big task, like kill a dragon or something, which would put a kind of narrative into the achievement tree.”

Putting one of the greatest features of next-gen gaming into Minecraft would do the game a whole lot of good, considering there currently are no real goals in the gameplay. This matter hasn’t affected success, though, as Minecraft has sold in big numbers and is headed to the iPhone and Android markets soon.
