I have countless fond memories with Mario Tennis. As a kid, I sunk many an hour into the classic Nintendo 64 title. And when I wasn't busy obtaining every single trophy with all of the game's characters, I was having a heck of a good time playing with my buddies. Man, eighth grade was pretty cool.
Also, I just realized I'm 113 years old.
Umm, anyway, Mario Tennis has always been a Nintendo sports series that I've really appreciated, and the upcoming entry on the 3DS looks like it's worth watching out for, too. Mario Tennis Open looks to provide gamers with the awesome gameplay that the series is known for, and it will include special modes and Mii integration.
Personally, the option to use your Mii in the game isn't all that enticing to me. What I really care about are the extra modes. Ring Shot, in particular, is a favorite of mine since Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64, and it looks to make its triumphant return in Mario Tennis Open. The potentially awesome new addition, however, is Super Mario Tennis mode, which lets you smack tennis balls at a wall where classic levels from the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES slowly scroll, requiring you to hit enemies and collect power-ups.
Check out the latest trailer for the game to see exactly what I'm talking about. If you own a 3DS, you should definitely watch out for this one. Mario Tennis Open looks like it's going to be pretty great.
