Major update on the development of The Last Guardian

Plenty of PlayStation 3 gamers have been eagerly awaiting the launch of The Last Guardian. Since the game's announcement, it has been one of the most anticipated exclusives on Sony's home console for a lot of people. Unfortunately, The Last Guardian has been delayed a few times, and gamers have been wondering when it will land.

In an interview with Wired, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida revealed some important info on the development of The Last Guardian. Apparently, people have blown Fumito Ueda's departure from Sony way out of proportion. According to Yoshida, while Ueda may no longer be a regular Sony employee, he's still showing up to the office to work on the game. "He could be the person who's in the office for the longest time," he stated.

One thing that's a bit odd is the slow progress of the game's development. According to the senior VP, The Last Guardian is playable, but it's still not ready to launch. Because of this, Sony has been having different studios help with the development of the game. Sony Santa Monica is one of these teams, and Yoshida stated that groups from the US and UK, in addition to Sony Worldwide Studios, have been getting involved, as well.

It worries me that it's taking this much man power to develop The Last Guardian. While large dev teams are nothing new when it comes to creating a game, development of The Last Guardian has been going on for some time now. It seems that Sony still has plans of releasing the game this year, but I think it's very likely we won't be seeing it until 2013. Here's hoping I'm wrong, though. I really, really hope I'm wrong.
