LUXOR Pharaoh’s Challenge Arrives
Early for Sony PSP Players
Latest installment of Egyptian
action-shooter puzzle game launched just in time for holidays
Just in time for the holidays,
leading casual game developer MumboJumbo launched the latest installment in
their LUXOR franchise of action-shooter puzzle games today with the unveiling of
LUXOR Pharaoh’s Challenge for the Sony PSP . The game was originally slated to
hit stores in January, but the developer was able to sweet talk Santa into
making an early delivery.
All of the pyramids, temples and
marvels of ancient Egypt are brought to life on the Sony PSP in the new
LUXOR Pharaoh’s Challenge. The most recent installment in the addictive,
action-shooter game highlights new Egyptian worlds to explore, new power-ups and
blessings. The game was previously launched for the PlayStation 2 in November
and last week for the Nintendo DS.
The Egyptian-themed casual game has
an MSRP of $19.99 and will arrive at national retailers just in time for holiday
shopping. According to Video Game Chartz, Sony has sold 27.78 million PSPs
worldwide, with 10.47 million PSPs sold in the U.S. Analysts with Screen Digest
reported earlier this year that PSP users are expected to generate $1.9 billion
in software sales for 2007.
Since the LUXOR franchise first
launched in 2005, the ancient Egyptian-themed games have been downloaded more
than 65 million times worldwide and have sold more than 500,000 units at
retailers nationwide. The game’s popularity is a prime example of the expansion
of the casual game industry, which is growing at a pace of 20 percent a year
according to the Casual Games Association.
"LUXOR fans can now enjoy all the
action on their PSPs," said Mark Cottam, CEO of MumboJumbo. "Pharaoh’s Challenge
offers up enhanced graphics, new power-ups, and blessings that take LUXOR to a
whole new level."
Winner of numerous awards, including
being named the number one casual game of 2005, the franchise has been expanded
with enhanced design quality and gameplay mechanics. LUXOR: Pharaoh’s Challenge,
designed specifically for the gaming console, exposes players to perfectly
rendered levels and exclusive features, including five sphere-pushing scarabs, a
ranking system that progressively increases power-up effectiveness and 13
all-new blessings that can be activated to make any level manageable.
