CREEK SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH WRESTLING GREAT ROWDY RODDY PIPER
FOR NEW ONLINE GAME
Oregon. May 30, 2001 – Kellogg Creek Software, Inc. announced today a working
partnership with professional wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper. Piper will
team with award-winning game designer Randy Chase to collaborate on the design
of "Roddy’s Ring(tm)" a new online strategy game based on the world
of professional wrestling.
Ring" will be an online game, available only over the Internet. Chase
explained that as with his previous online game, SpiritWars, the new wrestling
project will draw from multiple genres and feature a hybrid design.
"We’ll be combining many common role-playing elements with a quick-paced
strategy game that challenges the player to outwit his opponent. And, as with
SpiritWars, we’ll be putting a lot of energy into building a positive and
engaging online community that can form the cornerstone for Rod’s online
presence and expanding Internet activities."
game will be delivered using a dual-version business model like the one for
SpiritWars, providing an unlimited free-play version and an enhanced "pay
to play" option for the serious player.
Piper’s career has spanned thirty years and includes landmark events in
professional wrestling such as the WrestleMania series of pay-per-view events
in the mid 80’s. "There is little question that Roddy is one of the most
recognizable characters in the wrestling world," Chase commented,
"and with his reputation as an innovator and master entertainer, this is
a wonderful opportunity for both of us. I know as much about wrestling as he
does about computers, so we should make a great tag team!"
is best known for his realistic simulations of presidential politics. When
asked about this radical change in direction, Chase replied, "Obviously,
this is going to be a surprise to the fans of my political games, however I’m
excited about working with Rod. And we have a creative concept that we are
confident will result in a wrestling game that is far removed from what you
see on the game consoles. My fundamental philosophy of stimulating the
player’s mind instead of his reflexes hasn’t changed and you can expect an
interesting and original approach to the subject. I’m always looking to do
something totally different from my previous projects."
no release date has been set for the game, Chase said that the goal is to
release the free version of the game before Christmas. He explained that by
utilizing the development tools and technologies Kellogg Creek Software has
developed over the last five years to support SpiritWars, he is confident that
it can deliver the game on a fast-track development schedule. "This is
also an excellent opportunity to showcase my open-development
philosophy," Chase explained. "For years, I’ve wanted to build an
online game that actually involves the players in the development process and,
using this approach, we’ll have players engaged and participating within a few
months of the formal start of the project."
