Joss Whedon is going to write and direct ‘The Avengers 2’

In what every fan of The Avengers was hoping would be the case, Disney and Marvel studios announced today that Joss Whedon will be writing and directing The Avengers 2. No word on an expected release date yet, but one thing at a time. Whedon is the only person for the job, and fans everywhere should rejoice, and probably are. I can not express my joy… so I will let this video explain to you how I feel about this announcement:

It was between Kool & The Gang or the Ewok celebration song at the end of Return of the Jedi, but I couldn't find the version without stupid Hayden Christensen ruining the ending.

Back to why we're here — Joss Whedon and The Avengers 2. The announcement was made by Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger during Disney's earnings call today. In addition to The Avengers 2, Whedon will also be working on the proposed Marvel TV show for ABC on the creative side.

Marvel also released a statement regarding Joss Whedon:

Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.

It's hard to not enjoy anything that Joss Whedon puts his hands on. The guy has a golden touch, as proven by The Avengers making $1.461 billion worldwide. And I actually think The Avengers 2 can top that. Disney and Marvel had to bring Whedon back, as I don't think another director can live up to the expectations that The Avengers 2 will have. Luckily, with Whedon on board, The Avengers 2 is already moving in the right direction.
