Grounded adds Koi Pond in new update, Celebrates 5 Million players

Dive deep into the new update

Obsidian Entertainment released the first major update for their multiplayer survival game Grounded. Players can look forward to a brand-new Koi pond area, new creatures, equipment, and more. Check out the new trailer below!

Grounded is one of the more surprising success stories in recent memory. And it’s not because of the game itself but the developer behind it. Obsidian Entertainment is best-known for its deep RPG gaming prowess. As such, a survival-crafting game was the least game fans expected.

But it worked out just fine. Even more, Grounded slowly rises the ranks of the most successful Obsidian game ever. The studio revealed that a massive 5 Million players are playing the game already. And it’s still in early access with tons of more content to come.

One of which is the Koi pond. Available now for all players, the new biome is part of the biggest update yet. It expands Grounded’s backyard playground with the titular pond and a number of new creatures. You can learn more about it in the official news blog here.

This new area of the backyard brings new wildlife, new crafting recipes, and new mysteries, along with underwater gameplay mechanics that will allow players to go deeper than ever before.

Above all, the game’s success can no doubt be retributed to the Xbox Game Pass. Here, Grounded was available from Day 1 for all of its users. Without a doubt one of the boons of Obsidian Entertainment joining the ranks of the Xbox Game Studios line-up.

The acquisition by Microsoft clearly offered the developer much appreciated flexibility. Grounded is only the beginning of a new era for the legendary studio that’s behind hallmark RPG titles like Fallout New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and more.

We already know that the team is working on a massive new fantasy-RPG titled Avowed. While there are not many details in the open, it looks to become the company’s own The Elder Scrolls.

Grounded is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
