General Leia Has a Bigger Role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, Reported

Will we get a proper goodbye for the late and beloved Carrie Fisher?

Tragically, it was confirmed that earlier this week we lost Hollywood icon and mental health advocate Carrie Fisher. Last week, she was reported to have had a cardiac arrest and it was unfortunately just the beginning. However, it may not be the last time we see the was-Princess-now-General in Star Wars: Episode 8.

Filming for Star Wars: Episode 8 had already wrapped a few months ago, according to a rumor from Deadline, and General Organa was filmed having a larger role than the previous title. As Luke enters the fold, we may learn how his time was spent between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens and considering Kylo Ren is her and Han's son, we will undoubtedly learn more about her time as well.

From Deadline

“For Episode VIII, Leia had a larger role, we’re told, and her daughter, Billie Lourd also is in that film as well as in Force Awakens. How Lucasfilm will deal with the loss of one of the most beloved female characters in any franchise is not known, however, and the company is remaining mum.”

While the world mourns the loss of such an icon as Carrie Fisher, we may yet still be gifted with her presence on-screen. While certain events that will remain unspoiled from Rogue One acted as a beautiful send-off for the late actor, we remain hopeful that Disney and those directing Star Wars: Episode 8 will give Mrs. Fisher a worthy farewell.
