Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster gets a release date for the PS4

Enhanced enhanced graphics! Oh my.

If you were feeling like you haven't had enough remastered or remade games in your life, Square Enix has officially announced details on the PlayStation 4 port of Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster. It looks as though Square Enix will be making the jump to the PS4 with new features.

The game will have double the enhanced textures (*tap tap tap* Enhance. *tap tap tap* Enhance.), cross-save functions between Sony consoles (you can play it on almost everything without missing a beat), Remote Play (play it anywhere!) and the ability to swap between the old and new soundtrack.

Here are the new features as detailed by Square Enix:

  • Cross-save capability: Transfer your saves freely across the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4 versions of the title.
  • Switch between the original and remastered soundtrack: Love the original soundtrack? Now you can get all the benefits of the HD visuals and a choice between the original and remastered soundtracks.
  • Remote Play: You'll be able to play the game remotely on your PlayStation Vita, which is pretty neat.
  • "Enhanced" enhanced textures: The enhanced textures from the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita will be enhanced for the PlayStation 4 version and look like they may fix the stark contrast between the great looking player characters and the NPCs that made me ask, "What's wrong with your face?" (See the gallery for PlayStation 4 screens)

If you choose to pre-order Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster on the PS4 (from participating retailers) you get a calendar with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano.

We reviewed Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster back in March 2014 on the Vita and we can easily recommend it. It is recommended with the understanding that while the game offers cross-save functions, it is not a cross-buy title — you have to buy it on every console in order for the cross-save function to work.

That being said, the reviewer has openly stated that they are definitely going to buy it on PS4 (if that means anything to you).

The PS4 version is $49.99 and will release on May 12 in North America, will you be purchasing it?
