EA Sports planning Wii U announcements next month

While Nintendo showcased a ton of third-party titles coming to the Wii U, the system seemed to lack a certain genre of games: sports. Thankfully, EA has confirmed that it will make announcements regarding the Wii U next month.

Invitations to EA Sports Open House, sent out this morning, indicated that the event will include "EA Sports announcements on the Wii U."

The EA Sports Open House will include FIFA 13, Madden NFL 13, NHL 13 and NBA Live 13, though it didn't specify which ones would be announced for the Wii U.

I'm hoping Madden NFL 13 and NCAA Football 13 are among those being released for the Wii U; when I first saw the Wii U and its tablet GamePad controller I immediately thought how fun football would be when playing with others. The ability to possibly pick plays using the tablet's screen so that there is no screen looking. Or how about using the tablet to preview your play before it is run – no longer would you have to sneak it past others in the living room. These aren't confirmed, but they would be awesome!

At E3 earlier this month, EA was relatively quiet in terms of Wii U announcements. Nintendo revealed that Mass Effect 3 would be headed to the console, but aside from that all of the big announcements were made for Microsoft and Xbox 360 (like Kinect voice support for Madden NFL 13 and FIFA 13).

The EA Sports Open House is set to take place Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19. Be sure to check back for any announcements!
