Well, someone from the marketing teams at Best Buy and FutureShop.ca certainly had an awful day. Earlier today, consumers quickly spotted a pre-order listing for Bethesda's upcoming hit – Dishonored – on each of the two retailer's websites – both containing a concrete release date. If the leak is indeed legitimate, Dishonored is set to launch in the US on September 25.
Bethesda and Arkane have yet to comment on the listing, adding to speculation that the leak is indeed true. It's interesting, though, that Bethesda is choosing to compete with the likes of Gearbox and Borderlands 2. It's not so much that Dishonored is in a different "league" as Gearbox's blockbuster, it just seems like a poor marketing move to try and release a new IP amidst rush that is the beloved Borderlands series.
Nevertheless, Dishonored is shaping up to be a solid, exciting new IP. With the likes of Bethesda and Arkane backing the project, we fully expect the title to be a success, whether or not it's facing ClapTrap and any blood-thirsty skags.
