DICE 2017: Todd Howard, creator of Fallout and Skyrim, will be inducted into the AIAS Hall of Fame

Well, I mean it's about time

Fallout and Skyrim are two of the most classic RPG's of recent memory. Skyrim has just been remastered for current generation consoles, and the internet broke when Fallout 4 was finally announced. Today, we learn that their creator at Bethesda Todd Howard will be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (A.I.A.S.) Hall of Fame at DICE 2017.

This isn't one of those awards that gets thrown around to just anyone and you can't deny that Howard is absolutely deserving of the hoHideoHIdeo Kojima took home the award last year and before that, the creators of the Unreal Engine, Grand Theft Auto and Steam took the award home.

Mike Fischer, the President of A.I.A.S, commented on the announcement by saying

“I know that many of us in the industry have spent countless hours enthralled in the vast, open worlds that Todd has created. He’s made us all reconsider the player-game relationship and extended the storytelling possibilities of our medium. We look forward to honoring Todd and celebrating his achievements and contributions to the video games industry.”

It's been a while since Howard first joined Bethesda, as his first game was the Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall in 1994. Yup, that long.

The DICE awards will take place on February 23rd in Las Vegas at the end of their three day summit. Also, in case you weren't aware, DICE is not the game company, but stands for Desing, Innovate, Communcate, Entertain.

This is the 20th anniversary of DICE, and Insomniac Games founder and AIAS Vice President noted that

“In this industry, 20 years is a massive milestone. Thus it’s truly exciting to see the Academy celebrating its 20thanniversary. Videogames have evolved nonstop for the last two decades and each year brings new surprises. This year in particular with the introduction of the Immersive Reality awards I think we’re seeing games and the Academy taking another big step into the future.”
