Confirmed: Alien: Isolation officially announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Following yesterday's leak, SEGA has finally revealed Alien: Isolation, the next new game in the Alien franchise. Currently in development at Creative Assembly (the studio behind the Total War series), Isolation — like its name suggests — will be a survival horror game similar to that of Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece.

True to the rumors, Alien: Isolation is set fifteen years after the events of Alien and tells the story of Amanda Ripley, daughter of movie series' protagonist, Ellen Ripley. Amanda, now a Weyland-Yutani employee, heads to a large trading station where the audio log detailing the events from the Nostromo has been discovered.

Creative Assembly is looking to capture the same feeling as Ridley Scott's Alien. That that end, Isolation will feature just one single Alien that hunts the player throughout the game. The nearly nine-foot tall Xeno is said to be sense-driven rather than pattern-based, meaning it will always react to the player making it completely unpredictable.

Those worried that Isolation might suffer a similar fate of Alien: Colonial Marines — it's perhaps most telling that Creative Assembly opted to focus all of its efforts on a stellar single-player campaign, rather than offer some half-assed campaign and a generic multiplayer mode.

Aliens: Isolation is running on an in-house engine built by The Creative Assembly for Xbox One and PS4 (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC as well). The game is currently playable from "start to finish," with the studio now in the process of "polishing, iterating, and balancing." Creative Assembly is also exploring console-specific functionality such as Kinect integration on Xbox One; the PS4 demo used the touchpad to bring up and manipulate the map, while the DualShock 4's lightbar added to the immersiion by flashing with the iconic motion tracker in-game.
