Turtle Rock Studios’ freshly announced co-op survival-shooter Back 4 Blood got a new trailer. This time, we not only see more glorious gameplay but also learn more about the mechanics. Just follow this link below!

There’s very little debate about the inspiration for Back 4 Blood. Not only is the game title itself reminiscing of Left 4 Dead, but so much about the game’s design is very close to the iconic shooter. How could it not be though?

Turtle Rock Studios is the talent who created Valve’s outstanding zombie shooter after all. And the more we see about Back 4 Blood, the more we are convinced that it is a true spiritual successor to it.

Case in point, today’s new closed beta trailer. While we already saw a nice chunk of gameplay footage at the game’s reveal last week, now we learn so much more. The developer explains the co-op shooter’s unique mechanics in the commentated trailer.

Here, we learn that just like Left 4 Dead, a ‘Game Director’ takes care that every single run plays and feels different. From item location to enemy placement and its numbers. Back 4 Blood aims to deliver a fresh experience each and every time. Anyone who played Left 4 Dead should know just how awesome the director can be.

Apart from that, Turtle Rock Studios also invited gamers to sign up for the upcoming closed beta. This takes place between December 17th-21st and is only available on PC. So, try your chances at an invite by registering here.

The closed beta features 4 of the planned 8 player characters, so-called ‘Cleaners’. Furthermore, it takes place in Evansburg, which is only an early mission of the full co-op campaign.

Last but not least, we see what makes Back 4 Blood so unique compared to Left 4 Dead. The Card System. Players unlock cards by completing specific challenges. Before each match, the Game Director plays his cards which usually makes things more difficult.

Then the player can play their cards. These offer perks and bonuses for the players and range from more ammo capacity, better weapons, group buffs, and much more. Turtle Rock describes the Card System as a roguelike mechanic. Coupled with the Game Director, Back 4 Blood is poised to become a multiplayer juggernaut.

Back 4 Blood launches June 22nd for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
