It’s been a long four years since Patrice Désilets unveiled his newest game with Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. The reveal surprised long-time fans of the iconic game creator with it’s rather weird setting. Ancestors takes place millions of years ago and aims to put gamers in the shoes feet of a primate and his clan. Naturally, this setting will make it hard for a traditional narrative to exist, since these animals cannot speak.

EXPAND is the second video in our three-part 101 series where Creative Director Patrice Désilets discusses the need to grow your clan’s size in order to evolve your species. However, resources are limited and your clan will need to find new sources of food, water, and shelter to survive. Discover new homes for your clan by venturing into the unknown and conquer fear in order to expand your territory.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a very unique and curious game and knowing the person behind the title makes things only weirder. Patrice Désilets might not ring a bell but the talented game director is responsible for one of the biggest franchises currently available. Assassin’s Creed. After a fallout with Ubisoft, Désilets had to stop work on the spiritual successor to Assassin’s Creed, Amsterdam: 1666. Just recently we learned from Désilets that he plans to restart development on the game, but only after Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

Now, we know when this will happen. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will launch on PC this August, exclusively on the Epic Games Store. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will have to wait until December to play the game.
