It probably comes as no surprise to anyone that a Call of Duty game has broken first day sales records again, but here’s a sobering statistic for you: Activision claims that the game generated $360 million in sales in the U.S. and the UK in the first day.
That amounts to approximately 5.6 million copies. And a whole $#!%load of bullets.
“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick to GamesIndustry.biz.
Black Ops, Activision says, has already made at least $50 million more than last year’s Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare 2.
