SHOW JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURESTM
Company
Enters Agreement with Sony Pictures Consumer Products To Develop Games for
Current and Next Generation Nintendo Platforms
Santa
Monica, CA – May 11, 2001 — Continuing to expand its product catalogue,
Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today announced that it has obtained the
worldwide rights to develop and publish interactive games for the Nintendo
platforms based on Sony Pictures Family Entertainment’s animated television
series "Jackie Chan Adventures."
Starring
international superstar, Jackie Chan, "Jackie Chan Adventures"
combines eye-popping anime-style animation with fast-paced comedy to create an
action-adventure series like no other. The series, which premiered on Kids’
WB! on September 9, 2000, was named as the highest rated new show among 2 – 11
year olds by Summit Media Group’ Small Screen.
True
to his movie persona, "Jackie Chan Adventures" highlights Jackie’s
amazing athleticism, humor and real life super hero qualities. The show
features Chan as an amateur archaeologist recruited by a secret government
agency to defeat the evil organization called the Dark Hand. Along with his
niece and apprentice Jade, they travel the globe using their combined
intelligence, wit, humor and martial arts skills to locate seven legendary
portals and keep the sinister demon sorcerers from entering the earthly realm.
"Jackie
Chan is one of the most popular action personalities in the world,"
states Ron Doornink, President and COO, Activision, Inc. "Building on the
television series’ rich storylines, we will be able to create viscerally
thrilling games that will give Jackie’s fans a whole new way to experience his
elaborate acrobatic feats and comedic antics."
"Jackie
Chan Adventures" currently airs on Saturday mornings on Kids’ WB! and
will be airing Monday – Friday this fall. The show has consistently won its
time slot holding the number one position for boys 6 – 11 for the last eight
out of eight weeks and has held the number 3 position for boys 6-11 among all
Saturday morning children’s shows. The series is also shown in over 20
countries around the world including key territories such as Australia,
Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia,
Singapore, Taiwan and the U.K.
"Kids
all over the world know Jackie Chan and identify with his high energy style
and martial art moves," said Al Ovadia, executive vice president of Sony
Pictures Consumer Products. "We’re confident that our new partnership
with Activision for Jackie Chan Adventures will be a perfect platform for this
action-packed, quick-moving property."
