Clone-puzzler The Swapper hits PS3, PS4, and PS Vita this May

Video game "clones," like the knock-offs you see on the app stores, are bad. Well, except for these clones — as in the ones you'll create in The Swapper.

Curve Studios announced today that it's bringing the PC sci-fi brainteaser to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita in mid-May. Players clone their character and use the duplicates to solve puzzles.

Olli Harjola of Finland-based developer Facepalm Games created the title.

"We’ve been working on The Swapper for a few months now, and we’re really happy to be able to scream it from the rooftops," publisher Curve Studios wrote on its blog. "This game really shows off what indie titles can achieve – it’s hugely polished, impeccably balanced, immersive and, most importantly, it’s exploring themes and stories that are rarely examined in the more mainstream gaming world.

"[This] isn’t the type of game where you move from one puzzle set-up to another," wrote Curve. "It’s a got a dark and mature narrative that’s told partly through text and partly through the wonderful environments and visual style of the game, which were created using clay and other ‘real life’ modeling tools rather than traditional digital art.

"It’s a tense, claustrophobic world, but it’s also one with loads of detail and clever effects that really shine on a console."

The Swapper will release simultaneously on all three platforms.
