Update:

At 1:27 p.m. PDT Blizzard said they were in the process of testing and implmenting "multiple fixes" for hte current server issues.  However, we have discovered that we are now able to login and play.

Please let us know if this is the same for you as well (U.S. and European servers).

Original Story:

Amidst the massive launch of Diablo 3 today, Blizzard has brought down the North American servers.

According to Blizzard, they are in the process of performing an "emergency maintenance" for all North American Diablo 3 servers to resolve several issues that are currently impacting the game for many users.

"This maintenance may cause some interruption in communication, ability to log in, use of in-game features, and disconnections," Blizzard said in a sticky post. "We anticipate all servers will be available for play in approximately 1 hour."

The post was in response to several Error Codes, primarily Error Code 75: "Temporary outage of Battle.net service." and Error Code 317002. Blizzard is currently looking into the "best solution" at the moment.

What's the worst part about this aside from not being able to access your game after patching for hours?  This all could've been avoided had Blizzard not required constant internet connection to their servers to play Diablo 3.

We'll be sure to update you once the maintenance is complete and servers are back up.
