Ok I am sick of being told WoW started it all. Ultima Online and Everquest should be given the credit for skyrocketing mmorpg games into popularity. Yes there were games like this out before them, but these two are the ones that put these games on the map. And there is no line to blur between mmo and a persistent online world. The very definition of the original mmo's were that the world was persistent and continued without the player being online. Also, please stop complaining about "grinding". Leveling is what it is and it's a vital part of these games. If you want everything all at once, go play Call of Duty.
