i have to admit, the co-op game where players don't HAVE to communicate and mutedly bump around, random-wise, hoping to meet the next big monster, not giving a shXt whether their buddies die [cos THEY selfishly get a higher score!] frankly, even that age has lost its edge. The days of DM or TeamDM never appealed to me. But co-op, from the early days when ppl screamed for co-op vs AI & got it w the superb Hidden&Dangerous [1&2] where discussing tactics over Teamspeak made you a truly unstoppable team vs AI defenses, knifing that running guard as he almost reaches for the alarm when ur buddy, as planned, is waiting w a silenced sten and mows him down! tension, intelligent teamplay, & almost a sense of 'being there' made u want to try the maps again, again & again. however, a team of players vs an unknown universe w unknown variables, creatures, enemies sounds fantastic. i have high hopes for this. sounds like that old spectrum game 'Elite' but w the open universe that u can explore outside the ship! frankly i'm surprised they haven't taken the sandbox game to the stars co-operatively for this long. Most sandbox games are somehow linear except for the moral choice of endings.
