Price is not a reason to choose Nintendo either. Once you factor in the price of games, Nintendo is the most expensive option. New Super Mario...
I agree with you when you say a Mario game takes less development time and money, but they do offer a lot of quality and replay value. And instead of selling cheaper copies, Nintendo does offer a lot of bundles for the wiiu, which is probably a more tactical approach early in the console life then just selling cheaper. The reason games are cheap for the ps3 and xbox 360, and even wii, is because those systems have been flooded with non quality titles that sell cheaper and so the price of used games for non quality titles is usually lower. It's also the retailers that mainly lower the price, not publishers like Nintendo or activision, and they do this by selling used or promo copies. A game will have massive demand if it's good, regardless of how much development that game took. Take for example the legend of zelda ocarina of time 3d. I have been trying to get that game for the past two months and I would gladly pay $35 despite it being a 2-3 year old 3ds remake of an old game. Why? Because it's been sold out everywhere I go, which is an effect of strong demand because of good quality. Put it this way. I and many expect most ps3 games to lower their price. If a really good new game comes out, I expect it's price to lower because it has to compete with other ps3 games and even if it is good, most people can't be gauranteed that. Nintendo may have high prices, but I keep buying them because I'm guaranteed it will have quality, and it doesn't have to fall in price because other Nintendo games don't drop their price quickly because they also usually have good quality

You pay for quality content. Have you ever wondered why the game prices stay high for nintendos games while the others go down. It's because the replay value and quality of those games is higher. Once you beat the story for bio shock infinite, there really is no reason to keep it so it's returned more, lowering it's used value price. Once you beat Mario galaxy, Mario kart, smash bros, pikmin, it still is fun to bring out those games later and play alone or with friends so people tend to keep those games, which would keep their prices high. In essence you're getting more for paying more. Also speaking of costs, the ps4 and xbox one require new controllers for friends, online subscriptions, no backwards compatible, and have their fair share of problems BLOD (ps4) and disc drive of doom (xbox one)
