Frankly, most of those criticisms I would consider strengths. It always annoys me when games try to shove the story down your throat or handholding you - if games do that, they almost always get really boring really quick. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were subtle enough about it that it wasn't an issue, even though the path forwards was generally fairly obvious. In Dark Souls II, I'm completely and utterly lost with no clue as to what I'm supposed to do, and I'm loving every minute of it. And even though the game never gave me any clue as to where I'm supposed to go, I haven't so far had any problems finding new places to explore on my own.
