The minimum sample size required is 1500 to get a decently accurate idea if percentages, +/- 3% or so. It's proven statistically. (Its my major). Ironically, a survey over something meant as entertainment has more than enough people in its sample size, yet you thought it wasn't enough. What's really ironic is if you ever watch CNN or most news programs, when they give out percentages abou what's supposed to be REALLY important, if you look at the fine print at the bottom of the screen, they've sampled less than a thousand, yet people believe it without question. Strange huh?
