While some may argue that the genre has grown quite crowded over the years, there’s no denying that some of the best shooters ever released have been inspired by the Second World War. Here’s a look at some of my favorites from the WWII shooter sub-genre:

 

Medal of Honor
In many ways the title that helped create surge in WWII-inspired FPS games, Medal of Honor was one of the best shooters you could find on the original PlayStation.
Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30
The first Brothers in Arms title introduced us to Sgt. Matt Baker, and provided a true story backdrop to the grisly reality of World War II.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
The first Medal of Honor title for the PC, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault set the bar for the genre with action-packed gameplay and cinematic situations, including the best video game representation of D-Day up to that point.
