Top 10 Games That Didn’t Live Up to the Hype
When the gears are moving and the hype-machine is in full force, there are some games out there that look like they will be unstoppable. Be it through word of mouth, press coverage, or plain old hyperbolic marketing, some games just get hyped up to an unattainable level, a move even more disappointing when the games can’t hit the high mark, be they not quite great enough or sometimes just plain bad. Here’s a list of some games that didn’t live up to the hype:

Hellgate: London
The first (and sadly only) game to see release from Flagship Studios, a developer founded and composed of Blizzard vets, Hellgate: London was supposed to shake the very foundations of the MMORPG genre with a new subscription model. Unfortunately, tepid response and buggy play not only sunk Hellgate, but it took Flagship with it.

Fable

Having Fable, a critically and commercially successful title, on this list might seem like a faux pas, but considering the revolutionary features that the game was supposed to have when it was originally revealed as Project Ego (“ego” indeed) that disappeared during development, it’s easy to see why gamers may have seen it as a disappointment.

Lair
From the capable crew at Factor 5 (who effectively showed how do create a action-flight game with the Rogue Squadron series), Lair should’ve been a great title with amazing graphics that put gamers in control of a fire-breathing dragon. Instead, broken controls and many bugs had gamers greeting this PS3 exclusive with a collective “meh”.
