Sorry Wild ARms fans, this is a list of the top RPGs from western developers. Whereas Japanese RPGs have built huge fan bases and crafted compelling franchises that have stood the test of time, there have been some truly amazing RPG experiences crafted on our half of the globe. Here's a look at some of my favorites:

 

Planescape: Torment
Taking a dark sense of humor and a great sense of atmosphere, Planescape was an experience that no self-respecting PC RPG player should've missed out on.
Deus EX
A brilliantly crafted and engaging sci-fi action-RPG, Deus Ex gave you several ways to approach any situation, and was a compelling experience from start to finish.
Neverwinter Nights
A solid and moddable RPG, Neverwinter Nights had a robust campaign and encouraged gamers to craft their own gameplay experiences.
