New Fracture Q&A: Good Background to Terrain Deforming Noobs With New Details

There is something ridiculously sweet about video games that let you blow stuff up and then the explosion a permanent scar on the virtual landscape. Fracture takes that idea to the extreme with thirteen weapons and four grenades that will considerably alter the ground you stand on. The Fracture community site has just posted a small Q&A which doesn't expose too many new items of information but interesting none the less. Perhaps what is most exciting about Fracture is this doesn't seem like your typical 3rd person shooter with a gimmicky cover system, you will also use the environment as a passive weapon to gain the upper hand. I digress. Check out the Q&A. Fracture sounds cool, but what type of game is it? RTS, FPS, RPG or third person shooter? Fracture is a 3rd person shooter. But it's more than just that… How is Fracture "different" from other console action games? What makes Fracture so different from other 3rd person action games is what we're calling "Terrain Deformation" (or TD for short). This is a revolutionary new technology in games. It allows the player to literally reshape the battlefield on the fly using a variety of different weapons and techniques. A few examples - players can raise the terrain to create cover for themselves, they can lower it to dig underneath walls or locked doors, it is a tool for solving puzzles, and of course can be used in combat for destructive purposes.
