Nintendo, Square Enix, and Disney. It sounds like a natural trifecta of win and awesome, and yet, outside of a couple of portable titles, the Kingdom Hearts experience has yet to find its way onto a Nintendo console.
Fortunately, this is not one of those instances where the game's creator would simply brush off the notion; Nintendo Everything reports that in an interview with Nintendo Power for the July issue, Tetsuya Nomura addressed the possibility of bringing Mickey, Sora, and friends to the Wii.
The plot of any Kingdom Hearts game is bound to be a complicated, silly, generally nonsensical and convoluted affair, despite the games' inexplicable ability to tug on the heartstrings of millions of players around the world. For some, it's the Disney nostalgia, while for the others, the Final Fantasy characters dredge up fuzzy memories of better days and better games.
For those young enough to have played the original Kingdom Hearts game as a kid, the series itself is enough to evoke nostalgia, independent of its juxtaposed influences. Now that the US release of Birth by Sleep, the franchise's first entry on the PSP, is fast approaching, a new trailer has emerged that reveals plenty of action, and plenty of story. Oh, by the way, it's seven minutes long.
Guess what? It probably won't make any sense. Does it really matter, though?

In yesterday's press release, Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep will hit U.S. and European stores this summer. The game tells a story prior to the events in the first Kingdom Hearts, about three Keyblade Master, Terra, Ventus, and Aqua.
The title is a PSP exclusive that has been out in Japan for quite some time now. Other than the last handheld title, 358/2 Days, we haven't seen Mickey & friends for a while. Which raises the question, have American gamers lost interest?

I don't know about you, but ever since I first picked up my PlayStation 3 I've been dying to see a Kingdom Hearts sequel that fully utilizes the power of Sony's latest console. It looks like we may not have to wait all that much longer for some news regarding the next major title in the massively popular Disney + Square-Enix franchise. Kingdom Hearts fans eager for a true sequel now have additional incentive to keep watching after the credits are done rolling in the upcoming Birth By Sleep. As with the previous Kingdom Hearts titles, PSP's upcoming title, Birth By Sleep will contain a "secret movie" for those that manage to earn it by the game's end. Perhaps this movie will serve as a teaser for Kingdom Hearts III?
In an interview with Famitsu recorded by Nintendo Everything, game producer Tetsuya Nomura would not confirm or deny the existence of Kingdom Hearts III. However, he did say, "I think there are a lot of puzzling elements, so maybe they'll want to play the next game... And there'll be a secret movie too." When asked about this "next game," Nomura only responded by saying "the next game will be the next game." In other words, you'll have to wait and see.
I don't know about the rest of you Kingdom Hearts fans, but the anticipation is killing me.
Rumors have been floating for awhile now that Kingdom Hearts III is in development, with one of the more recent ones claimed to have appeared in the UK version of the Official PlayStation Magazine.
And as you can see to your right, the part of a scan from the publication in question, which states "Kingdom of Hearts III is in development as a PS3 exclusive and will be announced at TGS." You can find the full-size scan here.
Hmm... really not sure what to think of this. The first two Kingdom Hearts games were exclusive to the PS2, so on that note, I could see a third being exclusive. On the other hand, there have already been games on Nintendo systems (one for GBA, one coming for DS), and a lot of former Sony exclusives no longer are. And with even Final Fantasy XIII set to land on the Xbox 360 in the US... I guess I can imagine a KHIII coming, no doubt, but as a Sony exclusive? I remain skeptical.
Those folks at Nintendo Power are evil. Know why they get all those exclusives on Castlevania? It's because the heroes are just trying to get close enough to drive a stake through their blackened hearts.
But seriously, after they found out about the stir caused by their moon teaser, they've just gotten insidious, as you can see in the preview for next month's issue above.
NeoGAF speculates it could be Kingdom Hearts III, though perhaps it is more likely something to do with the DS game. Or maybe they really are just kidding. Or maybe it really is Mother 3. Or maybe they're really just kidding about that, too.
See? Evil!
