Why we won't see Grand Theft Auto V in 2012

Even the main character asks, "Why did I move here?"
A life of crime has never been so sweet, thanks to Rockstar Games.
As we reported a little less than a week ago, it seems that Game Informer is stepping up to fill the $#!&-stirring void left behind by EGM's Quartermann, and not wasting any time in doing so by perpetrating rumors of a new retail version of Grand Theft Auto-- something similar to the Vice City and such follow-ups to Grand Theft Auto III-- arriving before the ball drops on 2010. So, is there any truth to it? Some guys at Kotaku managed to get together with a guy from Rockstar, drop some roofies into his piña colada, and saw to it that he was tied to a chair when he woke up and it was time for some answers.
For those of you who may not look down upon Family Guy with complete and total disdain (I'm sure there are a few of you out there), you may be interested to know that Sunday's episode saw Peter suffer amnesia. This has required him to have to relearn to do everything, including drive. Following what seems to be one failed attempt at that, Lois decides to do something stupid: Predictable, but kind of amusing. Actually, from what I know of the handling of vehicles in GTA, I'd say that might have even gone more smoothly than one might expect. And just in case Fox gets touchy over 16 seconds of their footage being on YouTube, you can also find it on Kotaku and Ripten.
Here's a surprise: another mashup video from Dane Boe, this time featuring Grand Theft Auto IV and Frogger. I can already see how this wouldn't end well... Okay, I'll admit: that went the exact opposite of how I expected, which involved Niko attempting to run over Frogger, stopping his car, getting out, and shooting him. And in hindsight, I should have realized that's not how these things work.
Rockstar Games has been coming fast and furious with the trailers lately, and their latest gives us the first footage for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the PSP. The game seems to have been given a definite graphical overhaul following its already-excellent DS release earlier in the year, with improved textures and lighting. However, most features have stayed the same, such as the comic-style cutscenes, minigames, and of course, the drug deals. In all, for those that missed the game earlier this year, the PSP version should be more than capable of replicating the experience. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars rides to the PSP on October 20th.
Rockstar Games has seemingly revealed something new about Grand Theft Auto IV's newest DLC, The Ballad of Gay Tony, every week. Now, check out the latest trailer. The trailer is mostly for the upcoming Episodes From Liberty City, hence the included footage from the previous DLC, The Lost & Damned. However, there's plenty of new stuff, including our first look at the game's new APC vehicle. Ballad of Gay Tony hits stores as part of Episodes from Liberty City and on Xbox Live October 29th.
Earlier, we showed you what some crafty modders brought to the PC version of Street Fighter IV. Now, thanks to GhostbustersNews.com (via BitMob, via Kotaku), we can see what still more modders have done for Grand Theft Auto IV. Sadly, this is once more just for the PC version, however. I don't get it, is the Wii just the easiest console to hack, or what? Anyway, it looks as though the Ghostbusters have opened a new branch office in Liberty City, but got their ride jacked by our friendly neighborhood Niko while out on a job. Here's the fun which ensues: Two things would make this better: 1) the siren, and 2) if the guns were modded into Proton Packs (I forget, is the flame thrower still in this one? That might work well). Nonetheless, there's always talk going on about what makes good DLC or bad DLC, and I have to wonder-- this, and the Mr. T/Hulk Hogan stuff in SFIV earlier, would any of it make for good DLC that you would want to pay for? Heck, if Sony decided they wanted exclusive DLC of their own for GTA IV, would this be a good place to start? Tell us in the comments!
