Amazon UK lists Wii U for £199, cancels pre-orders

Online retailer Amazon UK, which earlier had listed the Wii U for £199, has canceled all customer pre-orders for the Wii U. Amazon explained in an email to customers that the listed was posted "in error".

In addition to cancelling the pre-orders, it appears as if they removed the black version of the Wii U. All that remains listed is the white Wii U, but you can now only sign up to receive an email for when it becomes available.

"We're writing to you regarding your order for the Nintendo Wii U console. Your order has been canceled as this product was listed on Amazon.co.uk in error. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused," the email (posted to NeoGAF) began. "You will not be charged for your order."

"If you're interested in ordering the Nintendo Wii U console when it becomes available, you can sign up to receive an email here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004Y59P3A"

Meanwhile, another rival retailer ShopTo has guessed the Wii U price as £280. That offer is still available to pre-order in either the black or white color.

As of right now, Nintendo has not confirmed a price or date of release for the Wii U, only saying it will release by holiday season 2012. While analysts suggest that it must remain priced below $300 to succeed, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has admitted the company seeks a price that is "reasonable in comparison to the value to be offered." What will that price be? We'll have to wait and see.
