3.5 million copies of Mass Effect 3 shipped worldwide

Following reports that Mass Effect 3 sold close to 900,000 copies in the U.S.in just one day, EA has proudly announced it has shipped over 3.5 million units to retailers worldwide.

Keep in mind, that is Mass Effect 3 units shipped, not sold.

In a celebratory press release, EA boasted that Mass Effect 3, developed by BioWare, has enjoyed over 30 perfect review scores with the Xbox 360 version scoring an impressive 95/100 Metacritic score.

"We have been truly humbled by the amazing response from fans and critics for Mass Effect 3," said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka.

"The game is a gripping, engaging experience where the decisions and choices you make will truly stay with you for the months and years ahead. We are all incredibly proud of Casey Hudson and the teams in Edmonton and Montreal for delivering the best game BioWare has ever made."

At the Wedbush Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference, EA also announced 890,000 copies of Mass Effect 3  were sold in the first 24 hours of the North American release.

"We anticipated it doing well, so we're happy," said EA's chief executive John Riccitiello.

It was also revealed that the Mass Effect 3 launch day DLC, From Ashes was a major success.  Retail giant GameStop saw 40% of day one customers also purchase the download code for From Ashes.

"The tie ratio at the register is the highest in their history," Riccitiello said.

Mass Effect 3 released in the U.S. on Tuesday and hits store shelves in Europe today.
