God of War: Ascension multiplayer confirmed

At a press event held last week in Hollywood, Sony Santa Monica unveiled a new multiplayer mode for God of War: Ascension.

Game director Todd Papy showed off the new mode which is playable by up to eight players.  In the new mode, two teams will compete, domination style, against each other.  At the end, they must defeat a "large God of War-worthy boss for victory".

According to Sony, the new multiplayer "combines the brutal gameplay and large-scale battles that  God of War is known for to create a competitive experience like never before."  Papy described it as a "fresh twist" on competitive gaming.

Those who play the game for the singleplayer, shouldn't be worried of it suffering as a result of this new multiplayer mode.  Papy told Eurogamer that Ascension's campaign is "just a little bit shorter" than the previous installments of the God of War series.  "We've mapped out everything and given time estimates.  It'll be pretty damn close."

"We didn't want to sacrifice single-player for multiplayer, neither did we want to tack [the latter] on," lead combat designer Jason McDonald added. "We're definitely going full force with both."

Sony has plans to hold a God of War: Ascension livestream tonight to give fans a "glimpse" of what's in store with the game.
