WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2007 - 360 - Preview
E3 2006 Hands On Preview
Mysterio and John Cena were going at it, but the damage on Mysterio was mounting out. A signature Cena move put Mysterio on the mat yet again, but this time the masked wrestler was not moving too quickly to get up. The pin was applied, as it had been several times during the match. With the sound of a button being rapidly depressed, Mysterior tried a few attempts to push off Cena, but to no avail.
Chalk one up for the journalist … Although kudos have to go to the developer who decided to not beat up on the aforementioned journalist.
Smackdown Vs. Raw 2007 has taken the series, visually to new heights. The game has approximately four times the polygonal count from the previous iteration and has fully 3D crowds. Not only that, but wrestlers can take the fight into the crowd, getting weapons and interacting by tearing up signs.
The wrestlers sweat and it accumulates during the course of the fight.
But the major changes centered around the gameplay. There are now more than 40 player-controlled moves, and players can also control environmental damage (such as the damage incurred from pounding an opponent’s head relentlessly into steel steps).
With more than 100 match variations in single player, the game also has multiplayer options for up to four players with 50 match types.
There are more than 60 playable superstars, including the divas, with authentic theme music, moves and voiceovers. A detailed morphing system will allow players to create a realistic grappler in the create a wrestler mode.
The controls are very good and the moves are well done. The game not only looks good, but sounds good as well.
WWE is taking the next step into the next-generation console platforming systems and it looks excellent and plays well. This is a game that will certainly appeal to wrestling fans and to sports actions gamers as well.
