Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - 360 - Preview

E3 2009 PreviewE3 2008 GameZone Previews

Presenting a dark, grim and even a brutal look into the future, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is ready to unleash it’s fury in the action-RPG genre. Taking control of a space marine – hence the name – players will become mankind’s ultimate warrior as he attempts to eliminate the scourge of Ork from the galaxy.

All in-game footage was shown, and to be honest, it was stunning for the entire presentation. Watching a space marine cut through and hammer down enemies left and right was thoroughly entertaining. The space marine is the weapon of humanity and the Emperor as their function is to cleanse the unclean, purge the unholy, and crush the corrupted and unpure. Forged in the blood of their enemies and tempered in their various battles they have endured, the space marines are bound to give gamers more than they bargained for.

With an all-new engine, built from the ground up, Relic Entertainment has used elements from other engines within THQ and brought in new programmers to build a technical powerhouse in the form of the Phoenix engine. Having no lead platform, the team has spent an equal amount of time with both the development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

As a third-person action-RPG, players will join various other space marines as they lead their conquest to kill off any Orks they encounter. With a deep progression system for the role-playing aspects, players should expect a high level of skills to achieve. Relic is also working with Games Workshop to make sure the narrative elements are up to par with the Warhammer 40,000 world.

Currently, Relic wasn’t ready to speak on the multiplayer functions but they have guaranteed that it will be equally as innovative as their past titles.

No release date was announced, but players shall be able to play Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 when it hits store shelves.
