E3 2003 – First
Look

Lawrence Holland, the
creator f X-wing, TIE Fighter, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe is back with
a new title that combines sterling flight elements which a rich mission-based
backdrop that covers some of the biggest moments of World War II.

Secret Weapons Over
Normandy, demonstrated by LucasArts Entertainment at the E3 trade show in

Los Angeles,
takes place between 1940-1944. The game covers the exploits on a

U.S.
pilot who has joined the RAF in 1940 and finds himself embroiled is some truly
big moments of the war.

There is a storyline in
place, one which will place the pilot in a variety of planes and task players
with a variety of duties. You may be required to fly fighter support for naval
ships in the Pacific, or sit in the ball turret of a B-17 gunning down Nazi
planes, then parachute behind enemy lines to steal a German airplane.

This is not a flight sim in
any way, shape or form. It happens to be an action/adventure that has flying in
it.

Game features also include
intuitive targeting and an enemy-rich environment. Players will be able to exert
their cinematic talents with camera angles in replaying the last 15 seconds of
any battle, and will also have the opportunity to slow down the combat
sequences. There is also a wide variety of planes to fly and advanced weaponry
to fire.

A pending 2003 Winter
release for the PC, PlayStation2 and Xbox, this game will feature split-screen
and cooperative play for the PS2 and Xbox, and a screen editor for the PC
platform.

Secret Weapons Over Normandy
is a solid-looking game with strong visual elements. From the radio-controlled
missiles that provide an up-close look at the destruction of a target to the
steady stream of targets while encased in a ball turret, this game is
well-paced. Play is interrupted for mission briefings but once into a scenario,
it appears that the game is tailored easily to the player’s experience level.

Game players who like
something more than a flight sim, but also like those elements will likely wish
to take at look at this product.
