Ninjatown - NDS - Preview
Ninjatown is a deceptive title that looks like it was made for younger players, but will challenge older strategy lovers
Ninjatown, from Venan Entertainment and Southpeak Interactive, is a deceptive little title. It is a top-down NDS game that looks like it was made for smaller children and yet once you jump in and look around, you will find a game that has a chess-like strategic element.
Southpeak was showing off the title at E3 in Los Angeles and though GameZone didn’t get a lot of time with the title, what was seen was a delight.
The game centers on the invasion of Ninjatown, a peaceful little community full of fun-loving ninjas, by the Wee Devils. It immediately falls to the game player to stop the invasion and find out why it happened in the first place.
Game features include:
Based on the popular Shawnimals designer toys and plush – this is the first game to bridge the designer toy and videogame worlds
The game is played from the top down, where the player uses the stylus to strategically place Ninjas to defend each area.
The action is non-stop, as the enemies swarm Ninjatown! This is not a turn based strategy game.
Each Ninja has specific powers and weapons, including Wind of Ninja Dropping and Stealth Hugs
Totally unique art style and gameplay – this is something very original for the DS
As the developer of the game stated that Ninjatown has a “cute exterior with absurdity and humor underneath.”
This RPG has nine districts and players place units as the game evolves to try to tactically prevent the Wee Devils from overrunning the town.
Don’t be fooled, this game is deeply involving and will have players not only reacting to changing situations but thinking ahead … you know, like a good game of chess. The game is slated to release in October.
