Marvel vs. Capcom E3 preview

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is one of the most fighting games of all time. With a wacky atmosphere, tight fighting mechanics, and an enormous roster of beloved characters, it holds a special place in enough gamers’ hearts to warrant a straight port to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network last summer. However, the real bombshell was unleashed a few months ago when Capcom revealed that they were at work on the third entry to the Marvel vs. Capcom series.

The game features a new 3D look, but all the action still takes place on a 3D plane. You can take a team of three characters and pair them off against another three. You’ll have access to a variety of moves including special attacks and team up moves that you can unleash against your opponents. The game feels very similar to its immediate predecessor, which is definitely a good thing.

You’ll have access to some brand new characters this time around. While the E3 character roster was far from complete, there were some standouts from both the Marvel side and the Capcom side, including newcomers like Chris Redfield, Dante, and Deadpool adding their own sense of style to the action.

Graphically, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is remarkably impressive. The game updates the franchise to 3D polygons, but it is very tough to tell the difference between the new look and the classic pre-rendered 2D sprites. The character models look great and move better than ever, and the over-the-top flashing lights and colors are back in fine form.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is certainly one that fans of the franchise will want to keep an eye on, and judging by our brief playtime with the title, they shouldn’t be disappointed.
