Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle - PC - Preview

E3 2003 - First Look

It’s time to take up the sword, to wield the power of magic, to battle the evil that threatens the land, or to take over a castle and establish a kingdom.

Lineage II, a pending release from NCSoft, demonstrated at E3 in Los Angeles and slated for a winter release, is a gorgeous game that will transport players into a fully-immersive seamless world, replete with textured lighting, an allegiance or guild system, a crafting system and intuitive gameplay.

The story takes place 150 years before the time of Lineage. The Chaotic Chronicles (the subtitle of Lineage II) has race specific skills and characteristics, and walks the path of the adventure/action role-playing game.

The game also incorporates political, economic and moral systems firmly in place. The monsters even have a hierarchy. There are more than 3,000 objects in the world that players can use or equip and there is weapon and armor degradation. But don’t worry about the latter. Dwarves, one of the five races in the game, can repair damage to equipment, as well as craft and sell gear to players. There is also more than 45 professions available for players to pursue.

In addition to the incredible game graphics, the program has a soundtrack provided by an award-winning designer.

The player interface is simple to use, and there are drag-and-drop hotkeys to allow players easy access to the spells and attacks in the game.

The world, which is in beta in Korea right now, currently sits at 20x20 kilometers. The game will likely expand to 40x40 kilometers. But if consider the size of the world, you might worry about spending all your time running across the land and very little time questing. To that end, the designers have inserted various modes of transportation, including a dragon that must be raised from egg to flying, fire-breathing beast.

Lineage II is far removed graphically from its predecessor. This game is visually stunning and the evolving world, with its clan and crafting systems, and the rich storyline will immerse players into the waters of an absolutely amazing world.
