E3 2008 Preview

Ben 10 isn’t 10 anymore. But in the
context of his TV series, he really hasn’t changed that much. He still
transforms into aliens, enabling him to inflict damage on even the most
formidable foe. And in his upcoming video game, Ben 10: Alien Force, he’ll take
on a new set of challenges that aren’t far removed from the original.

On Wii, PS2 and PSP, he teams with
Gwen and Kevin 11. Actually, he isn’t so much teaming with them as he will
become them using the Omnitrix, his special device for turning into monsters and
other, more friendly faces. Five new alien transformations are being designed
for the game, and only two of them are shared with the Nintendo DS version,
which also has five alien transformations. This gives you a total of eight
transformations — if you play the DS version and one of the others.

The Wii and DS versions were shown
at E3, and both should deliver entirely different gameplay experiences. If you
played the first Ben 10 title for DS, you’re probably expecting more 2D action,
and that’s just what you’re going to get. Motion controls aside, the 3D content
of the Wii version will also appear on PS2 and PSP. That version is more like a
Nickelodeon action game with a preset camera, linear level designs, and
voice-overs from the show’s leading actors.

One feature that only the Wii and
PS2 versions share is single-screen co-op gaming. The developers felt it was
important for them to appear on screen together in a non-competitive format, so
you won’t see them battle each other, and you won’t see the screen split in two.

Not much else is known about Ben 10:
Alien Force, except for the final release date: October 28, 2008. In the
meantime, stick with GameZone for the latest info on Ben 10’s whereabouts.
