Adrenalin Misfits E3 preview

With the official reveal of Microsoft’s Kinect at this year’s E3, there are titles pouring out of the woodwork for the high-tech device. They range from kid’s titles, to fitness and dancing, with even a Star Wars game thrown in there. Konami has revealed that they are adding a cartoon racing title to the mix with their downhill boarding game, Adrenalin Misfits.

Adrenalin Misfits isn’t quite a snowboarding game, per se. Your boards in the game are capable of not only traversing snow, but also water and other surfaces. The environments are said to be quite diverse as are the racing modes, with five different challenges in each of the game’s eight worlds.

As this is a Kinect title, the game requires no controller outside of the Kinect itself. You navigate the menus by moving your hands from side to side, and select by holding your hand out in front of you.

The racing mechanics were tough at first, but felt intuitive after a while. You control your board by leaning left and right to turn, leaning forward to go faster, and jumping to, well, jump. Additionally, you’ll be able to pick up power-ups on the field that will give you an edge over your opponents.

The game’s cartoony aesthetic works well, with anthropomorphic animal characters making up the roster of racers. Additionally, the gameplay was fast, and the environments where brightly colored. Adrenalin Misfits is shaping up quite nicely, offering some fun Kinect based gameplay and a lighthearted design.
