Red Faction: Armageddon E3 Demonstration

After an impressive showing in 2009 with Red Faction: Guerilla, THQ and Volition are back with a follow-up sequel that will be entered as the fourth entry in the series titled Red Faction: Armageddon; a fitting title to such a devastating game. A new alien species has populated the surface of Mars and infected almost everyone in its sights, so it’s time for Darius Mason, the hero of Armageddon to come to the rescue of those in need.

Changing it up from the open-world formula of Guerilla, Armageddon is presented as a third-person action title and would almost look and act too similar to many other action titles on the market if it wasn’t for the Magnet Gun. The Magnet Gun is Armageddon’s secret weapon that makes the title all so sweet with sugar, sunshine and rainbows. At first, players will fire at one object that they want to be pulled in one direction. Once they find that object, whether it is a concrete wall or a vehicle, the players must find a second object for the first to come crashing towards. The end result is a gorgeous display of disaster.

Another weapon showcased was the Nano-forge; a weapon that repairs destroyed objects and structures. The reformation of objects is often key to using them to eliminate opposing threats. Combined with the Magnet Gun, players can destroy a structure and then repair it to use it again to make short work of enemies who are creeping up in numbers.

The last new feature showed off for Armageddon was the new mech-like suit titled the Exo, a machine so powerful that nothing was able to stand its way. The developer ripped the enemies to shreds with not much concern for the environment or enemies before him. Hordes of enemies would be literally disposed of in seconds, so players are in for a real treat when they finally suit up and take the Exo for a test run.

If players have experienced Red Faction: Guerilla, they’ll remember that Volition was among the few that has been able to get environmental destruction right. Armageddon is no different as the chaos that occurred was nothing short of marvelous. There’s simply nothing like it on the market right now, so THQ and Volition have something special here that is set for a March 2011 release this current point in time; the same time as THQ’s release of Metro 2033.
