With the classic films behind us, many people felt that the days of Lord of the Rings games were behind us as well. However, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is here to prove us wrong with their upcoming title, The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest. Aragorn’s Quest is a tad more lighthearted than previous Lord of the Rings titles, namely EA’s film-based gaming franchise. The gameplay is light, but still should be an exciting and interesting action-adventure for those looking for more Lord of the Rings action.

Aragorn’s Quest is basically a retelling of key events from the Lord of the Rings franchise. The story is being passed down by Samwise Gamgee to his children, and of course, he embellishes a little to make it more exciting. You’ll take the reins of Aragorn as he fights through the events that Sam is relaying, additions and all.

The gameplay has a definite light action-adventure feel to it. While the majority of the combat will be sword-based, Aragorn’s skill as a consummate archer are important to the gameplay, requiring you to use a bow and arrow at certain times.

Gandalf is Aragorn’s constant support partner, and will help him throughout the game with magic and healing. If you’re playing alone, Gandalf is relegated to an AI-based support character. However, you can have a second person pick up a Wii remote and utilize the wizard’s magical abilities and lend a little support to Aragorn.

Aragorn’s Quest will offer up to 12-20 hours of gameplay, depending on how you play. For more serious core gamers, the game will offer up some interesting light RPG features to give them more out of the experience, while the light Zelda-esque action and cartoonish visuals will keep the younger set entertained. Look for it to launch this fall.
