Super DBZ – PS2 – Preview

E3 2006 First Look Preview

Dragon Ball
Z on the PS2 is really nothing new, but just wait until you see the way the game
is powering up this iteration. It’s even got ‘super’ in the title and Atari is
gearing up to release Super DBZ in July. The title was on display at a pre-E3
event Atari recently held in San Francisco.

With new
character designs and world locations, this is a fighter title in the same vein
as Marvel versus Capcom. It is a horizontal-combat view with 18 different
characters and destructible environments.

The game has
a strong visual look, trading off a cartoon style and rendering out the action
in a lush, bright and colorful way.

Combo
attacks are all present, and while players will be able to use combo attacks,
getting to the point of unlocking more moves will take some commitment and
effort. Once a combat move is unlocked, other characters can inherit the skill
through game play.

The control
scheme seemed simple to understand and use, and with the integrated and familiar
graphical elements of the Dragon Ball Z universe, this is a title that is
certain to find a niche with a wide variety of gamers. You don’t have to be a
Dragon Ball Z fan to enjoy a solid arcade-like fighter, and Super Dragon Ball Z
will prove that with all the enthusiasm the franchise can muster.
