Galactic Wrestling – PS2 – Preview 2

Most
kids from my generation at one point or another collected ‘Muscle Men’.  These
collectable pink figurines from Japan flew off the shelf into the hands of
grade-schoolers, and eventually into the contraband drawers of many teachers.  I
had an entire box of them confiscated by my fourth grade teacher, Ms. Rangell.
Well, it looks like I got the last laugh, because Bandai’s Galactic Wrestling,
featuring the Muscle Men of days past, isn’t going anywhere near her as it will
be spending plenty of time in my PS2.

From acclaimed wrestling game developer AKI (Def Jam
Vendetta, WWF Wrestlemania), Galactic Wrestling is an absolute romp.  Focusing
on multi-player mayhem, Galactic Wrestling allows up to four players to beat the
heck out of each other in Battle Royale or Tag Team modes.  Almost every one of
the 48 playable characters has their own special finishing move, each
fantastically animated.

The highlight
of the game has to be the abundance of maneuvers.  Wrestlers can throw opponents
off ropes and deliver flying clotheslines, dropkicks, and of course the
devastating Super Galactic moves.  Team play isn’t ignored in the game, with
certain combos being only available when two players fight together.  The action
takes place in and out of the ring, which can be customized itself.  Make the
floor of the ring concrete, ice, or old school canvas.  The ropes can be
regular, barbed wire, or even high voltage electricity for a little extra
shocking damage.

Galactic Wrestling to hit the stores
